Does applause ever have a place in worship?
Kathy Brittenham
Helmer and Flint UMCs
South Milford
|
Oh, yes. There are times in a service when it is not
appropriate. But as a form of joy and appreciation it is. At more spiritual
times, silence is sometimes more meaningful, however. |
Rev. Linda Craig
pastor Wesley UMC
Culver
|
Yes. It depends on the style of worship, and what is
happening in the service. It has a place when it (applause) is spontaneous
response by the congregation to the worship experience. |
Jack Hawley
First UMC
South Bend
|
At our church we do it sometimes. My personal feeling is
not to do much. It takes away from the spirituality of the service. |

Yes. I think sometimes when we're moved by a song, even
with children, we learn from them. Applause is a part of encouragement,
particularly with children. It is a form of praise to God and encouragement
to the participants, I believe. |
Rev. In Suk Hong
pastor, Clinton First UMC
Clinton
|
Yes. It depends. When people are deeply moved by beautiful music or
involved in praising God or by testimonials. It's spontaneous - they do
it for God.
