Easley appointed Rushville District superintendent

The Rev. Ida Easley has been appointed the new district superintendent for the Rushville District.

Easley, appointed by Indiana Area Bishop Woodie W. White on Nov. 15, will take office Jan. 1. She is currently serving as pastor of Nashville UMC in the Bloomington District. Easley has served at Nashville since 1999.

A 1984 graduate of Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, Easley began her ministry in the Rushville District, serving at Connersville Second UMC and Rushville Wesley. In 1989, she moved to Indianapolis Forest Manor UMC and Petersville UMC in 1992.

Easley, who is a native of Indianapolis, is the first African-American woman to be appointed to the superintendency in the South Indiana Conference. Her 17 years of ministry have been filled with the joy of baptizing, confirming and establishing relationships in the parishes and communities she has served, says Easley. She has also initiated three Emmaus communities and served as a reserve delegate to the 1996 General Conference and a delegate to the 2000 General Conference and World Methodist Conference.

She looks forward to establishing a relationship and working with the district's churches, as well as making disciples for Jesus Christ. "I look forward to the challenges and opportunities."

Easley will replace the Rev. Robert Sharp, who has served as district superintendent since 1994. Sharp was appointed to serve as the South Indiana Conference's Conference Council on Ministries director, which he started on Nov. 1

The Rushville District includes 88 churches and has 11,951 members (1999 Journal). It covers Decatur, Fayette, Franklin, Henry, Rush, Shelby, Union and Wayne counties in East Central Indiana.

Easley has one son, Christopher, who lives in Santa Ana, Calif. Matthew Oates

South Foundation names new director

The South Indiana Foundation recently named the Rev. Marie Lang as its new executive director. Lang has been serving as the organization's director of asset management service and acting executive director since the death of Dwayne Woerpel in July.

The South Indiana Foundation is an agency of The United Methodist Church, serving the South Indiana Conference, churches and institutions with investments, stewardship, planned giving and enduring gifts programs. It is entirely supported by fees and gifts, and receives no apportionment funding.

"It is an honor and a privilege to have the opportunity to play a role in assisting both individuals and church organizations in their stewardship efforts. The Foundation has a committed, visionary board, a history of innovation and growth, and I am excited to be a partner in its ministry," said Lang.

A graduate of the Indiana University School of Business, Lang is completing a Master's of Theological Studies at Christian Theological Seminary. She holds certification in Church Business Administration from Candler School of Theology at Emory University, and has previously served as administrator of Greenwood UMC and Roberts Park UMC. Lang also chairs the Division of Deacons.

Outdoor Min. director named

The North Indiana Conference recently named Nick Yarde to the position of director of outdoor ministries. As director he will oversee programming, program development, leadership recruitment and training, personnel supervision and property management. Yarde will begin work Jan. 1. He follows Dave Arnold who was the organization's director for nine years. Arnold is now the pastor at Huntington Trinity UMC.

Nick Yarde joined the site management team in 1994, as manager of Camp Lakewood. Prior to his employment at Camp Lakewood, he was site manager of Camp Indi-Co-So in Springville, Ind.; site manager of Camp Rivervale in Mitchell, Ind.; and Park Superintendent for Warrick County Park Department and Scales Lake Park in Boonville, Ind.
