A LETTER FROM JON AND MARY GLYNN WALTERS IN ALASKA …
carried good news that stated, "Mary Glynn had successful emergency open
heart surgery (two valves replaced) one year ago on Nov. 12, 2000. Her recovery
has been remarkable and the support of so many relatives and friends has meant
so much. Thanks for helping us get through this most difficult and trying time.
Mary Glynn will be in Indiana, Boston, Mississippi and Pasadena over
Christmas."
THE KEN VANCE FAMILY …
has moved into their home in Zambia, according to Debbie's parents, Paul and
Judy Rigsby, Jonesboro, Indiana. However, as of early November, the expected
container with important items had not yet arrived. Their e-mail address is
Kenvance@coppernet.zm . We'll look forward to a newsletter soon.
DELBERT AND SANDY GROVES …
sent an alarming e-mail on Nov. 12 regarding a devastating storm that hit
their area Nov 9. The twister caused trees to fall; one large tree fell on their
security wall and the new printing facility building. They were thankful the new
roof had not yet been added but much damage was done. They had only recently
moved into their New Life Training Center Campus and in October sent a
newsletter describing the exciting details of finally moving. Now the monumental
task lies before them of making new plans and adjusting to this set back. They
asked to "please consider prayerfully what you or your church would be willing
to do to continue the work we have started in Zambia." They asked that funds be
sent to the conference treasurer and then it would be forwarded to GBGM. Checks
should be marked Advance Special New Life/ Uzima Mupya # 013-125-8RA.
R. STEPHEN NEWNUM AND MARIA …
mailed an autumn newsletter with an update of their ministry in Londrina,
Parana Brazil. Since it has been quite sometime since I have heard from them, I
was especially glad to receive their letter and to learn that Stephen
successfully defended his doctoral thesis on August 23. He said he was indeed
pleased to have finally completed this goal.
They also reported on activities and programs at The Methodist Center for
Education and Training, saying the newest program is a Course on Missions,
through which they hope to reach out to train more persons for missionary
service.
In July, the General Conference of the Methodists in Brazil met in Maringa, a
city about one hour from the Newnum's home. They had hoped to attend but due to
the thesis were not able to make it. However, they were thrilled to learn of the
election of the first female bishop in Brazil.
The Newnums will be returning to the USA for their Home Assignment in January
and February and are in the process of contacting Conference Mission Secretaries
to arrange schedules.
