BELLS RING FOR EVELYN CAIN

A missionary in Northeast Brazil for the past two years, Evelyn Cain is returning to the States this month to be married. She will continue under assignment to the General Board of Global Ministries but in a new capacity as mission interpreter in residence for the North Central Jurisdiction. In her new position, her primary task will be to interpret and cultivate support for the work of the Advance for Christ and His Church.

This month, Evelyn will marry a dairy farmer in northern Indiana. In July, August and September, she will be speaking in supporting churches and other locations. The Rev. Dennis A. Shock, conference secretary of global ministries, will plan her schedule. He can be contacted at First UMC, 352 Main, Crown Point, Ind. 46307, 219/ 663-1515 or alyshock@netnitco.net.

JOHN and KENDRA ENRIGHT and FAMILY

On July 17th, the Enright family will leave for a return trip to Zambia. They are anxious to get back to get ready for the Pastors' School in early August. Once again, they will have pastors from Congo, Tanzania and Zambia, but in addition this year, they will include student pastors from Malawi, Zimbabwe and Senegal. John reports "this miracle" of Kafakumba Training Center is reaching to all of central Africa and beyond.

When the Congo church leaders feel it is safe, the Enrights will return to the Congo to work at Nyembo, but at present, they do not know when that will be. But when it does happen, they hope to work at both the Nyembo Conference Center in the Congo and the Kafakumba Training Center in Zambia.

E-MAIL and WEBSITE UPDATES

Delbert and Sandy Groves have a new site on the Worldwide Web, www.NewLifeZambia.com. It changed about the time the old one was included in the column. The former web site server had some equipment failure, so they were forced to start a new web site. Please note this and also their new e-mail address, Groves-@NewLifeZambia.com.

Lowell and Claudia Wertz have changed their e-mail address to wertz@africaonline.co.tz.

Hope Barnes - My e-mail address has changed. Please note the "a" between my first and second names in the address, hopeabarnes@home.com.

REV. MARVIN P. SINGH

Pastor of Centenary UMC in New Delhi, India, the Rev. Marvin Singh and his family will be visiting the Rev. Oscar Mathura, Covington UMC, from June 13 through June 19. While there, Rev. Singh has offered to speak to churches about his work in India. From l985 to l995, he was pastor of the Apostles UMC and during those years the membership grew from 90 members to 800. To make arrangements, contact the Rev. Mathura at Covington UMC 765/ 793-2007 or by e-mail doscarj@tctc.com.

LEADER IN MISSION OUTREACH, SUPPORT

In a recent communication from North Conference Mission Secretary, the Rev. Dennis Shock, he reported that for the year 2000, North Indiana Conference was once again second among all conferences in per capita giving to Advance Specials.

Shock said many of the churches are also involved in a "covenant relationship" with missionaries. However, NIC needs to involve more churches in this relationship as the total number of missionaries continues to rise.

New financial guidelines have been approved by the GBGM starting in January 2001. Churches beginning a new covenant relationship may choose one of three levels of annual support for a missionary: $3 a member; $4 a member; $5 a member, or a flat $2,500 per year.

Rev. Shock reported the following missionaries to have a special affiliation with NIC: Rosalie Bowker, Korea; Evelyn Taylor Cain, Brazil; James and Julie Doepken, Alaska; James and Helen Dwyer, Germany; John and Kendra Enright, Zambia; Cynthia Anne Girton, Liberia; Steven Newnum, Brazil; Kenneth and Deborah Vance, Zambia. In addition, Joe and Carolyn Wagner and Lois Rogers, are missionaries within NIC. Many other missionaries, as well, receive support from various churches within both the North and South Annual Conferences.
