Parting Thoughts

Following the upcoming Annual Conference, the Rev. Steve Burris will retire as North Indiana Conference Council Director. Burris recalls some of the highlights of his tenure.

Working on the Vision 2000 event at Notre Dame and seeing the impact it had on a number of our churches.

Being a part of the National Association of Council Directors and having the opportunity to network nationally and world-wide with people having different ideas.

To see the exciting growth in our camping program as a direct result of a marketing strategy change.

The establishment of the 2010 plan which helps us to focus on being an inclusive church.

"It has been a learning experience and privilege to be in this position during what are truly the in-between times for this church," says Burris.

Bishop Woodie W. White has appointed the Rev. Cynthia Reynolds to serve as the new North Indiana Conference Council Director, effective June 16. Reynolds will succeed the Rev. Steve Burris, who is retiring at this year's Annual Conference after six years as council director.

Reynolds has served the North Indiana Conference for 23 years as an associate pastor, senior pastor, campus minister at Ball State University's Wesley Foundation, and Huntington District Superintendent from 1994 to 2000. She has also led and participated in several work camps within the U.S. and overseas.

"This new position will be a challenge that I pray will open many opportunities for experiencing the new things God is doing every day in our midst," says Reynolds. "I see the council director as a facilitator of information and resources to empower local churches to fulfill the mission of Christ in the world. We are living in transitional times that call for a bold witness from the church of Jesus Christ."

Reynolds expresses a passion for helping people to connect to the life-giving power of Jesus Christ. "I believe profoundly in the grace of God and the power of the Spirit to transform lives," she says, adding that she looks forward to working with people in local congregations as they experience this transforming power.

The North Indiana Annual (regional) Conference consists of 580 churches with a combined membership of approximately 105,046. The Conference office is located in Marion, Ind.
