Teens visit Washington, D.C.What's up? Our names are Jamal Dillon and Gino Watson. Because our invovlement in KidTown and Grace Church, Gary, we recently were able to take a trip to Washington D.C. It was very interesting and we had a lot of fun. Together, with about 24 other students and some adults, we traveled to the capital of our United States. We took part in various seminars about voting in America. We feel that this trip to Washington D.C. affected us in a positive way. It gave us different issues to consider, such as facts on health care and on energy. We also discussed politics. We met a lot of senators, such as Frank Rodriguiz, Mitchell Kent and others. D.C. General, the only hospital in Washington D.C. which cares for their patients with or without health insurance, may close. Many hospitals like D.C. General are in difficulty because they treat so many people without insurance, and the hospitals don't get paid for the services they provide. Health insurance is important, but not everybody has it. One way to get health insurance is through your employer if you. have a job. Another way is to get it is from one of many different health insurance companies. Another issue we studied is the energy crisis, this involves energy that is going to waste. We found out there are many people who don't care and don't know how to solve the energy crisis problems. One way to help the energy crisis is to buy appliances and electronics with the energy star on it. In the future, there will be a great chance of electricity being produced by wind. There will also be devices called. fuel cells where you can produce and make your own electricity at home. Due to the air pollution caused by cars, in the future, cars will be running off of hydrogen or batteries. These methods are still in development. Overall, we had a great time and are grateful to have represented Grace Church on this trip. We got to meet new people and make new friends from other United Methodist churches in north Indiana. |
