The 10-10-10 MISSION PROGRAMThis new program was set up only a couple of years ago by the GBGM to provide for a more grassroots participation in identifying persons for mission service, and also in placing them within annual conferences. Local church groups desiring to assist those wishing to become missionaries and also to aid mission projects within their own districts would find the 10-10-10 Mission program helpful. Basically, this is how it works: Each Conference Committee on Mission Personnel is assigned to:

Tim Helm led a team of eight from his congregation, Hanfield UMC, to Zambia this past August. As a guest instructor, he taught basic church growth principles in the Kafakumba Pastor's School, where John Enright is director. During the Pastor's School, the other Hanfield team members conducted a VBS for children of the pastors enrolled in the school. Hanfield UMC, located in the Marion District, has been a longtime supporter of the Kafakumba School. In 1998, they purchased 130 bicycles, making it possible to give each of the graduates a bicycle. Other members of the team were Tim's wife, Karen Helm; daughter, Cori; Bob and Sandra Morrison, Rich and Erik Fox and Mike Kerlin. MERRILLYN MCNARYWhile Merrillyn is in Muncie on a leave of absence from GBGM, awaiting mission possibilities within the Indiana Area, she is available for speaking engagements. She can be contacted for scheduling at 2018 N. New York Ave., Muncie, Ind. 47304. Her phone number is 765/288-8404. GBGM missionaries do not expect personal reimbursement, but churches do need to pay transportation costs for missionary speakers. KENNETH VANCE FAMILYIn mid-September, Ken and Debbie Vance and their two children, Stacie and Joshua, returned to Africa after spending the past year in the States. Ken will be director of Likaski School of Theology. NEWSLETTER FROM JIM DWYERA recent newsletter from Jim Beckley, pastor of Peace Church in Munich, Germany, carried an interesting item discussing a successful project that its Kid's Club sponsored. After four evenings of cooking courses, the children invited people to a restaurant evening at Peace Church. About 100 persons responded to the invitation. Fifteen children, with the help of seven adults, arranged rooms, decorations, shopping and organized the cooking and serving. They were able to serve 100 meals with starters, main dishes and desserts. At the coffee bar, appetizers could be ordered. Proceeds were given to the Kindergarten Project in their Asylum Seekers Home in Untersbergsbrasse. A journalist was present at the event, as a result, he interviewed the kids and a fantastic radio program was broadcast on Munich radio. Last updated on 01/14/2004 |
