Michael and Teresa Rynkiewich …
and children will return to the SIC this summer for home assignment. When
Teresa and family return to Indiana in June, she hopes to find housing in the
Evansville area and a vehicle for visitations. Michael will arrive in July. Each
will visit their supporting churches individually.
The Rynkiewich's first went to Papua, New Guinea in l997. Before serving as a
missionary, Michael was a professional anthropologist and college professor. The
family's current address is The Melanesian Institute, Box 571, Goroka, EHP;
phone 675/ 732-1416; fax 675/732-1214; e-mail address:
mrynk@daltron.com.pg.
Janet McCarty, …
currently serving in the Philippines, will be itinerating in south Indiana
June 12-16. Janet has been teaching at Harris Memorial College, near Manila, and
serving as the librarian for a K-12 school. She has a covenant relationship with
Richmond/Chester Heights UMC and would like to schedule some additional churches
for speaking. Call Cathy McNamara at 800/919-8160; e-mail Janet at
jmccarty50@yahoo.com
.
Ron and Judy Covey …
from the NIC, serving in Douglas, Alaska, have just received an Advance
Special number to help them with salary support: #931351-7. The Coveys are
encouraged since they are beginning to see new people in their church. They were
able to send six children to UM church camp and l3 participated in one of the
day camp activities.
The Coveys may be contacted at Douglas Community UMC, P.O. Box 240293,
Douglas, Alaska 99824; e-mail crcovey@aol.com
.
Advance Special money …
I have been asked how to send money for Advance Specials. The procedure is to
have your church treasurer send it to the conference treasurer, who then sends
it on to New York. Be sure the Advance number is clearly marked.
Covenant Partners Ministries …
in Muncie held its Open House and Dedication Service for its new facility
Jan. 27 and looks forward to its grand opening this fall. The multipurpose room
was filled to capacity with Partners members participating in the dedication
along with other interested persons: pastor, Linda McBride; Muncie District
Superintendent David Maish; conference representative, Ed Fenstermacher; Muncie
District chairperson BGM, Audra Piner and a host of others.
John and Kendra Enright …
are experiencing empty nest syndrome since their first child, Brian,
enrolled in college this semester. In answer to a question I wrote them
about Kafakumba Pastor's School, Kendra wrote, "Brian seems to be settling
in well, and we are managing without him -- but it sure is different!" Yes,
many of us remember the feeling and can empathize.
United Methodist Committee On Relief (UMCOR) …
This significant arm of the UMC is the Red Cross of our denomination. Through
it, United Methodists assist those who are: experiencing drought, emergency
hunger situations, the aftermath of wars, hurricanes, floods and earthquakes. It
works in cooperation with our ecumenical partners. In many instances, in
countries where UMCOR has had more experience and knowledge, government
officials have even asked UMCOR for leadership. Its main source of support is
the annual One Great Hour of Sharing offering, which is collected each year in
March.
Jon Walters …
recently wrote of a concern for the Alaska Missionary Conference:
possibilities for promoting the Parish Partner Advance Special. After
hearing Bishop Ed Paup speak on the subject, Jon felt he wanted to make some
contacts with Indiana churches. Persons especially interested in Alaska
missionary work, should contact Jon or one of the other two pastors from
Indiana serving in Alaska: Jim Doepken at Girdwood; Ron Covey at Douglas.
Jon can be contacted at Church of the New Covenant UMC, 11167 Frontage Rd,
Kenai, Alaska. 99611-7753; 907/283-7868.
New e-mail address …
