Igniting Ministry catches fire

Igniting Ministry program of the South Indiana Conference (SIC) will be launching a more extensive advertising campaign next September after receiving a $50,000 grant from the conference's Mustard Seed Fund.

Unlike previous campaigns targeted mainly at cable television during the two-week period before Christmas and Easter, this campaign will include radio, billboards, cable and broadcast television for the entire month.

The ads will be geared toward people between the ages of 25 and 54.

"A large number of them are looking for spiritual meaning in life," said Bert Talbott, coordinator of Igniting Ministry in the SIC. "What we've developed (is that) our hearts, minds, and doors are always open as United Methodists. We want to urge them to try Christianity, and hopefully the United Methodist Church."

Igniting Ministry of the SIC has applied for a matching grant from the national UM Communications office in Nashville. It has teamed up with the Kentucky Annual Conference and the North Indiana Conference, which contributed an additional $16,000 and $1,000, respectively, to the campaign. Talbott said that since the ads will reach viewers in the markets of four different conferences, the grant will have a better chance of being approved. Lisa Schubert
