John and Mary Glynn Walters …
New Covenant UMC in Kenai, Alaska are planning to attend the South Indiana
Annual Conference session in June. John will speak briefly about Alaska at the
GBGM session.
He suggested I include for readers' convenience, the Advance numbers for the
Alaska Missionary Conference, as well as those for our three Indiana Alaska
missionaries: Alaska Missionary Conference, 931027; Ron Covey-Douglas, Alaska,
931351-7; Jim Doepken-Girdwood, Alaska, 931464-7; John Walters-Kenai, Alaska,
931805-3.
John and Kendra Enright …
reported in "Epistle from the Enrights" that John was able to make two trips
from Zambia up to the Congo to visit with the church leaders and workers in
Lubumbashi. He could not travel to their home station at Nyembo because of the
danger of bandits and unruly soldiers.
In Zambia, though the Kafakumba Training Center has yet to be completed, they
have held several seminars and training sessions.
Oklahoma Indian work project …
is in need of funds to purchase supplies for their 35th annual work team,
scheduled for July 22-Aug. 2. Their conference Advance Special Number is
#034001. For more information, contact Wilbur or Betty Eiler at 317/485-5615, or
Dorsey or Mary Price at 765/728-5753.
Jim Doepken …
will participate in a Mission gathering at Epworth Forest in September. He
also wrote that their charge conference is moving forward with a property
purchase.
Ken and Debbie Vance …
and their children, Stacie (15) and Joshua (13) live in Kitwe, Zambia due to
the instability in the Congo. He is director of the Likasi Pastor's School and
Debbie is director of the Women's school. Ken makes regular trips into Congo to
meet with the bishop, pastors and leaders of the school. In the past year,
nearly 20 new churches have been started in Zambia; they do not have enough
pastors to supply them all. Since January, in addition to his Pastor's School
responsibilities, Ken has been serving as a pastor at their new church in Ndola.
Debbie had a blood clot in her leg when she returned to the US in February
for her brother-in-law's funeral and is being treated for the problem. She was
also diagnosed with a blood disorder called Factor 5 Leiden.
Lowell and Claudia Wertz …
and their children, Kimberly and Luke, have almost completed another
four-year term.
They will be in the U.S. from September 2002 to April 2003. Claudia is
handling all speaking dates. Contact her via e-mail at
wertz@africaonline.co.tz.
