What is the most important thing parents can do for their children's spiritual education?

Rev. Linda Brackney
Pastor, Knightstown UMC
Knightstown

I see parents as having three equally important roles in their children's spiritual education: as teachers - teaching children how to be a family, how to be good stewards and how to enjoy God's creation; as models - parents sharing their own faith in word and deed; as guides - parents acting as a bridge to resources and experiences in the local church and beyond.

Indianapolis Barnes UMC
New Castle

Teach them so they live out Christianity in their lives every day, not just on Sunday. I've taught Sunday school and tutored young children, and today feel children are helping me build my own spiritual life, and act out my own ministry.

Ervin McKinley
Aberdean UMC
Rising Sun

Adults need to set an example. Actions speak louder than words. Don't preach to them. Show them by how you go to church; show respect for other people, by praying. Let them see you pray.

Nancy Parkinson
Muncie College Avenue UMC
Yorktown

Go with them to Sunday school regularly. Talk and read about good examples of spiritual choices from books and real life. Sometimes we need to talk about examples of wrong choices.

Charles Hefley,
Kokomo Grace UMC
Kokomo

See that they become involved in church early in their lives. And help them understand how their faith can be a positive effect on their lives.
