SIC elects new youth leaders

By Beckie Minglin

The annual election of officers to the SIC Board of Youth Ministries (CBYM) was held April 12-13 in Bloomington. Officers will begin their tenure at the end of Annual Conference in June.

Michael Love (Indianapolis West District) was elected president. He will preside over the meetings of the CBYM and provide spiritual leadership. Mike will also work closely with the senior and junior high Youth Annual Conference vice presidents.

Molly Hunteman (Bloomington District) will serve as the executive vice president, Sr. High Youth Annual Conference (YAC). She will preside over meetings in the absence of the president and oversee all areas of planning Sr. High YAC.

Dana Slater (Indianapolis West District) was chosen to hold the office of vice president, Jr. High YAC. She will oversee all areas in planning this event.

Stuart Barnes-Israel was elected vice president of special events. This office is responsible for the planning of new ministries within the CBYM. This coming year, Stuart will be working on the Sr. High Leadership Retreat.

The vice president of mission funds position comes with long hours and hard work. It was decided this year that two people would share the office. Caitlin Smith (Rushville District) and Cassidhe Hart (Bloomington District) will be co-vice presidents responsible for promoting the mission focus and running the fundraisers at both YACs.

Brandon Smith (Rushville District) was elected vice president of ethnic and minority affairs. Brandon will be working with the district coordinators to promote racial balance in membership and participation in programming. He will also work with Michael Love and the vice presidents of Jr. and Sr. High YAC to provide scholarships for ethnic and minority youth.

The recording secretary position will be held by Michelle Pattison (Vincennes District). Michelle will be responsible for maintaining the records of the CBYM and passing them on to her successor.

Lindsay Achgill (Indianapolis East District) was elected to be the communicating secretary for the board. Lindsay will be submitting articles for the Hoosier United Methodist News and e-HUM.

The United Methodist Youth Organization representatives are elected for two-year terms. These youth attend the national legislative convocations and speak for the youth of the Annual Conference. Cassidhe Hart and Stuart Barnes-Israel were elected to hold these positions. Stuart has already served one term in this position.

Ryan Nelson (Indianapolis East District) was elected to fill an open position as a Representative to the Jurisdictional Youth Ministry Organization.

For more information on youth ministry at the district or conference level, please contact your district youth coordinator through your district office.
