The Upper Room has launched MethodX (the way of Christ), an on-line Christian
community where young adults (18-28+) can identify and explore their
relationships with God and with others. MethodX is sponsored by the Upper Room
Ministries, an interdenominational, global, Christian ministry. MethodX has
three main components: "Inner Active," which allows users to customize their own
sacred page; "Outer Active," which is a community section with chat rooms and
debates; and "Connect with God," which introduces nine prayer methods. A
"Hyperactive" page contains music reviews, advice columns, greeting cards and an
on-line bookstore. The Web address is
www.MethodX.net.
A proposal to create a single UM division for young people and young adults
was discussed at a Sept. 12-15 gathering of Youth and Campus Ministry groups in
Ocean Grove, N.J.
The steering committee of the UM Student Movement (UMSM), housed with the
General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM), and the Shared Mission
Focus on Young People (SMFYP) team, housed with the General Board of
Discipleship (GBOD), discussed efforts to strengthen UM youth and young adults.
Speaking to the Shared Mission Focus on Young People's full committee, Hal
Hartley, staff advisor for UMSM and director of student ministries in GBHEM's
campus ministry section, said both groups are on the same journey. UMSM and
SMFYP representatives will meet again in February 2003 to prepare
recommendations to the upcoming General Conference.
