Arts chorale to perform Bernstein piece in MayINDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis Arts Chorale, St. Luke's United Methodist Church, East 91st Street Christian Church, and professional musicians will perform the Leonard Bernstein's autobiographical masterpiece, MASS: A Theater Piece for Singers, Players, and Dancers May 7 and 8 at St. Luke's UMC, 100 W. 86th St. in Indianapolis. Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. each evening. According to Indianapolis Arts Chorale Director and Conductor Chris Ludwa of Meridian Street UMC, "the landmark musical work, commissioned by Jacqueline Kennedy in memory of her husband for the 1971 opening of the Kennedy Center, is something of a cross between a musical, rock concert, blues club, ballet, and an opera all rolled up into a modern-day version of the Catholic mass designed to reach both fans of the church and the skeptic alike. It's a powerfully emotional experience, and the music is rich and challenging. "The work presents a great opportunity for small groups within any church setting to attend and then follow up with a discussion," he said. Tickets are being sold at $20 each on a festival-seating basis. For more information or tickets, call 317-846-3404. Last updated on 04/19/2004 |
