Communications offers 2004 General Conference online Web site courseUnited Methodist Communications offers an online course for those wishing to know more about the work and issues of General Conference being held in Pittsburgh April 27-May7. "Exploring General Conference: What, Why, How" premiered March 17 and will run until April 28. The course fee is $12 and can be paid by credit card online. According to Barbara Nissen, director of Communications Resourcing Team, this self-paced course looks at all aspects of General Conference, the denomination's top decision-making body and includes a very brief section on the upcoming 2004 General Conference. Through a multi-media "virtual" classroom experience, which intermingles printed content, audio and video clips, quizzes, animated learning aids, and a threaded discussion board, the course captures the spectrum of activity and purpose of General Conference. Learn how delegates are selected and follow animated characters that show the process of a petition moving toward law. This distance learning opportunity is recommended for anyone planning to attend General Conference for the first time, including delegates and communicators, and for United Methodists who would like to learn more about how the denomination makes decisions about who we are as United Methodists. A basic understanding of the polity of The United Methodist Church is helpful. The course is offered entirely on the Internet so participants must have Internet connection and a basic understanding of navigation. Enrollment for Exploring General Conference began March 10. To learn more about the course and to enroll, log on to training.umcom.org. Last updated on 04/19/2004 |
