Lafayette pastor featured on UMC Web site sermon seriesLAFAYETTE, Ind. - A Lafayette clergywoman was featured internationally last month on United Methodists Communications' Web site www.umc.org. The site contains a new online audio service that allows the user to download an audio copy of the Rev. Kimberly Reisman's sermon "The DNA of Love." In the online sermon, Reisman, one of the pastors of Trinity United Methodist Church, preached on the Apostle's Creed "as our declaration of loyalty to God." She likens the creed to a pledge of allegiance or affirmation of faith. The sermon was uploaded on April 22. She says: "In the Pledge, we don't just promise to be loyal to any nation; we pledge our allegiance to a particular nation, with a particular founding principle: 'One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.' "So the Creed is like that. The Creed is like that because we don't just affirm our faith in any god; we pledge our loyalty to a God with very distinctive attributes, the God who has revealed Himself in very distinctive ways," she said. "… a God's whose DNA is part of us." "Through Jesus Christ, we become inheritors of God's love . We have been given new DNA through adoption." To hear the rest of her 25-minute sermon "The DNA of Love," log on to www.umc.org/interior.asp?ptid=1&mid=3926. On the first and third Mondays of each month, www.UMC.org presents timely sermons from the denominations leading pastors. Ideal for breaks at work or an early morning pick-me-up, The Message is available in two formats: Windows Media and MP3. MP3 available from www.inareaumc.org. Last updated on May 17, 2004 |
