Seminary books needed for Sierra Leone

Looking for a way to free up space on your book shelves?

The Rushville District is asking for your participation in an important mission project to benefit students at the Sierra Leone Theological College and Church Training Centre in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

During a 2002 mission trip to Sierra Leone, the Rev. Bill Jackson, then pastor at Milroy in the Rushville District, visited with retired Bishop Arthur Kulah. Kulah, now the principal of the Sierra Leone Theological College and Church Training Centre, discussed with Jackson the college's urgent need for seminary textbooks.

Last year, Jackson joined with the Rev. Tim Johnson and Richard Hollowell of Greensburg UMC, to help students at the college to pursue their studies. They collected seminary textbooks at both North and South Indiana Conferences. The response was tremendous.

"We doubled the number of books in the college's library and we'd like to do that again this year," said Hollowell.

Conference attendees are asked to bring seminary book donations to the 2004 South Indiana Annual Conference. The books will again be collected outside the IU Auditorium.

Books suitable for seminary study are being sought. A list of specific books the college needs is available by contacting one of the persons listed below, however, Bibles and other titles also will be accepted. If you don't have books to donate, a monetary donation would be appreciated. The money will be used to cover the cost of book collection and shipping.

For more information, contact Richard Hollowell at rwell@hsonline.net or 812-663-8531 (work) or 812-663-8638 (home). Or contact the Rev. Tim Johnson at areyoufree@core.com or at 812-663-5683 (Greensburg UMC) or 812-663-2433 (home).
