South Indiana School of Christian Mission to focus on prayer, Cuba and public education

By Martha Milhouse

INDIANAPOLIS - Come and learn. There is something for one and all. I've heard it's the "best kept secret" in Indiana mission education.

The overall theme of this year's South Indiana School of Christian Mission is "Prayer, Policy, and Politics."

We pray for many things - peace, guidance, courage, strength, understanding and wisdom. As we pray for others, let us remember God's children in Cuba, barriers that have prevented us from learning about them and ways to build bridges of understanding.

We also need to remember our children - how do we help them to learn, do they have the tools for learning, what is our responsibility. Through the studies, "Concerning Prayer," "Cuba" and "Public Education," we are called to be open to God's leading, to nurture a relationship with Cuban Christians and to provide our children an opportunity for a quality future.

The School of Christian Mission will be held in July at the University of Indianapolis, 1400 East Hanna Avenue. The weekend session is July 23-24. The weekday session will be July 25-28. The worship, classes, meals, officer and mission updates, banquet and program will all be in Schwitzer Center on the campus.

During the weekday session, there will be children and youth classes as well as the adult classes. The adults will have the Spiritual Growth study and a choice of one of the other studies with eight hours in class.

Costs. For those staying in residence halls, the fee is $48 for the weekend and $145 for the weekday; a child's fee is $55, and youth pay $115. For non-residence hall students, it is $25 for the weekend and $75 for the weekday; a child's fee is $35, and youth pay $60. For an additional prepaid $10 fee, participants can receive a study book when they register by July 8.

The School of Christian Mission banquet will be on July 27 with a program presented by the Rainbow Junction Players Puppets. Additional tickets are available at $15 each.

For a registration form, contact the School of Christian Mission registrar Justine Handley, 5950 Countryside Ct., New Palestine, IN 46163.

Martha Milhouse is Dean of South Indiana School of Christian Mission. Her address is 2823 Griffa Ave., Columbus, IN 47203. Phone 812-372-2062.
