Seminary lecture series to feature Hispanic theologian

INDIANAPOLIS - A new lecture series at Christian Theological Seminary this fall will feature three presentations by a noted historical theologian whose roots go back to Cuba.

Dr. Justo Gonzalez is scheduled to offer three lectures, all open to the public, over five-days. The first lecture will be Tuesday, Sept. 21, at 6:30 p.m. in the CTS Shelton Auditorium,1000 West 42nd St., the second on Thursday, Sept. 23 at noon in the Students Common Room at CTS and the final one Friday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. at Light of the World Christian Church, 4646 N. Michigan Rd., a mile west of the seminary.

Gonzalez, a native of Cuba, directs the Hispanic Summer Program at Columbia University in New York City.

His three lectures here will emphasize the theme: "Money Matters: The Interactions of Wealth and Faith." Sub-themes in the three lectures are:

  • Sept. 21 - "Theology: An Economic Doctrine of the Trinity." He will consider vital questions about the relationship between economic issues and the doctrine of the Trinity.
  • Sept. 23 - "Ecclesiology: What in the World is the Church?" This lecture will focus on the socio-economic and political reasons why the church has been defined differently over time and how it is understood in contemporary life.
  • Sept. 24 - "Eschatology: Pie in the Sky Bye and Bye?" Gonzalez will analyze how Christianity's teachings about the end of time are related to social action or inaction today.
