Episcopal candidates required to file forms

The North Central Jurisdiction will meet in conference at Davenport, Iowa, July 14-17. The main task of the gathering is the election of bishops to fill vacancies created by retiring episcopal leaders. Presently, the North Central Jurisdiction plans to elect three bishops but, depending on the action of General Conference meeting April 27 through May 7 in Pittsburgh, may only elect two. The General Council on Finance and Administration is requesting General Conference to cut the number of bishops in each jurisdiction by one.

In order to be considered for election, candidates are required to complete an Episcopal Nominee Information Form and to submit that form by June 21. Forms may be obtained from Annual Conference Secretaries. Electronic versions of the form can be obtained from the Jurisdictional Conference Secretary at jdsteph@isunet.net.

The form asks for background information, experience and special interests. Candidates are also ask to describe their understanding of the nature and mission of the church, leadership style, gifts, graces, how they have experienced the call to the episcopacy, and to share visions for the church in the new millennium.

In the North Indiana Conference the Secretary is Rev. James Butler, 114 N. Ironwood, South Bend IN 46615; and in the South Indiana Conference the Secretary is Rev. Curtis N. Hurley, P.O. Box 84, Bedford IN 47421.
