Hoosier United Methodists together

September 2004

Letters to the Editor

Two letters in the July/August issue deplored a women's march (in Washington, D.C.) as "pro-abortion." I believe the march was consistent with United Methodist policy on this issue. United Methodists strongly discourage abortion, but believe this personal choice should be between a woman, her pastor and physician. They do not believe the government should tell her what to do in every case. This is consistent with resolutions passed by the General Conference. As for those who wish to leave The United Methodist Church (for whatever reason), they are free to leave but they can't take the church property with them. The property belongs to the Annual Conference.

I think what our United Methodist church needs today is Revival! We all need to lift up our hands and hearts to God in prayer seeking His forgiveness for the wrong choices we have been making as His Church. I believe that with God's help and our obedience to Him, we can make a difference. We can be the church He wants us to be! Keep praying! Keep believing!
