Flat Rock church damaged by high winds

The roof of the 58-member Flat Rock United Methodist Church was blown off by high winds that crossed Indiana on Friday evening, March 31. Flat Rock is a small rural town 40 miles southeast of Indianapolis. According to Rushville District Superintendent Ida Easley, the roof damaged the parsonage next door to the church. The house was pushed in six inches on one side. Currently, the sanctuary looks to the sky. Members removed pews and other furniture on Saturday. Damages are being assessed. No one was injured.

Wheeler church celebrates parsonage mortgage burning

The Wheeler (Ind.) United Methodist Church, located in the Calumet District near Valparaiso, celebrated Feb. 12 the retirement of a mortgage on its four-year-old parsonage, as members burned the mortgage with Pastor Gary and Connie Allan and current Pastor David and Jackie Banning joining in the celebration.

This church, founded in 1833, has been worshipping on the corner of Third and North Streets since 1872. The current building was constructed in 1914. In 2001, the church decided to build a new parsonage about two miles from the church. The former parsonage, built with the church, was razed to provide room for a parking lot. Ground was broken in May 2002 and the parsonage, built primarily by volunteers, was dedicated in November 2002.
