They met at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Kokomo. Representing the North Indiana Conference, South Indiana Conference and the Indian River Michigan Conference, the 18 students were instructed in worship planning and preparation by the Rev. Judy Adams, in pastoral care by the Rev. Terry Marker and in conflict resolution by the Rev. Marilyn Dunton. The course provides necessary training requirements for certification and continuation as a Certified Lay Minister as outlined in The Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church - 2004 ¶ 272. Courses are graded on a pass-fail basis using completion of assigned written work, class participation, demonstrated comprehension of a basic knowledge and understanding of subject, and materials presented as criteria. Basic Training 2 will be held on March 11 at St. Luke's in Kokomo. Students in Basic Training 2, will be taught United Methodist theology of the sacraments and confirmation, church administration, and balancing family and spiritual life.
