Duke professor to speak at both Indiana conference sessionsINDIANAPOLIS - Indiana Area Bishop Mike Coyner has announced that the Rev. Dr. Randy Maddox, a professor at Duke University Divinity School in Durham, N.C., will be speaking twice at both Indiana annual conference sessions this spring. Coyner told Together Maddox is scheduled to speak about "Wesley's Understanding of Grace" and "Wesley's Understanding of Salvation." According to the Duke Divinity School, Maddox is a recognized authority on both John Wesley's theology and the theological developments in later Methodism. In addition to numerous articles he is author of Responsible Grace: John Wesley's Practical Theology , a contributor to Wesley and the Quadrilateral , and editor of Aldersgate Reconsidered and Rethinking Wesley's Theology for Contemporary Methodism . Maddox routinely brings this grounding in his Wesleyan tradition into conversation with issues of present Christian life and witness, including such special interests as the science and religion dialogue, the nature of evangelicalism, and the self-understanding of theology as a discipline. An ordained elder in the Dakotas Conference of The United Methodist Church, Maddox serves currently as the North American Secretary of the Oxford Institute of Methodist Theological Studies, General Editor of the Kingswood Books Imprint of Abingdon Press, and Associate General Editor of the Wesley Works Editorial Project. He has also served as president of the Wesleyan Theological Society, and co-chair of the Wesley Studies Group of the American Academy of Religion. Last updated on 25 Apr 2008 |
