Fort Wayne women donate blankets for special service at Parkview HospitalWomen of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Avilla, Ind. recently donated handcrafted baby blankets, layettes and buntings to the Chaplaincy Department of Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind. Babies that are miscarried, still born or died shortly after birth are wrapped in the blankets so that the family members can hold them for a few minutes. Then the blankets are put into a memory box along with other special items, for the family to take as a keepsake. The idea came about as the Director of Chaplaincy at Parkview, the Revs. Ann Steiner Lantz and Leonard King, senior pastor of Calvary UMC, were sharing about this special need of the hospital with each other and how the local church and hospital could partner together to help young families find comfort during their time of loss. Lead Chaplain Jeannine Nix of Parkview Hospital and Mao King and Janice Parks of Calvary communicate about every six weeks about the need for blankets. For more information about this partnership, contact Lantz at 206- 373-4470 or by e-mail at Ann.Lantz@parkview.com. Last updated on 25 Apr 2008 |
