What's next in possible union of two conferences?

INDIANAPOLIS - Bishop Mike Coyner, in a June 13 e-mail to e-HUM subscribers, shared thoughts about the process he would like to see in place to draft plans for a new unified conference in Indiana.

Here are some of the actions he outlined.

  • First, he will name an "Imagine Indiana Planning Committee" of five to seven people.

  • The Rev. David V.W. Owen, executive assistant to the bishop, has been asked to staff that committee.

  • Coyner plans to meet with this committee part of the time to get them started and to respond to any questions or problems they encounter.

  • Coyner plans to work with the "Imagine Indiana Planning Committee" to name a series of sub-committees to deal with the issues heard during discussions at the two annual conference sessions. These sub-committees will focus upon some of the technical questions which must be answered.

  • Coyner will name a prayer team to serve as one of the sub-committees in order to support this entire effort with prayer for God's guidance.

  • All recommendations from these various sub-committees will go to the "Imagine Indiana Planning Committee" for decisions about inclusion in the plan which will brought back for a vote in 2007.

  • Finally, Coyner plans to name a large and very representative "Feedback Group" of people who will hear from the "Imagine Indiana Planning Committee" and offer responses, suggestions and concerns.

If you would like to help and are willing to serve on any of the groups listed above, please send Bishop Coyner an e-mail to bishopcoyner@inareaumc.org and let him know of your interest.
