In Ordinary Man Extraordinary Mission: The Life and Work of E. Stanley Jones, Jones' life was lived in the context of the historical, political and religious events of his day. In particular, Jones's life and ministry occurs against the backdrop of the Christian missionary movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the aftermath of World War I, the different phases of the Indian independence movement, the origins of Japanese imperialism and militarism in the Pacific during the 1930s and 1940s, and finally, American domestic and international politics following World War II. Jones a native of Maryland, surrendered himself to Jesus Christ as a teenager and graduated from Asbury College in Wilmore, Ky. His most notable best-selling book, The Christ of the Indian Road (1925), propelled him onto the world stage as an extraordinary advocate for the Kingdom of God, who became known as the most universally admired missionary evangelist of the 20th century. During his ministry, Jones wrote almost 30 books. Graham will be at Cokesbury Bookstore on Saturday, April 29 (10 a.m. to Noon) for a book signing. His biography of E.
