Terre Haute secretary receives certification during national secretaries meeting in CaliforniaTen Hoosiers joined more than 215 United Methodist office professionals for the 24th Annual Conference of the Professional Association of United Methodist Church Secretaries (PAUMCS) April 20-22 in Pasadena, Calif. During the three-day event, Michelle O'Hare, of the Terre Haute District Office, received recognition as a Certified Professional United Methodist Church Secretary, after having attended the PAUMCS Institute at Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta. Hoosier members receiving renewed certification include: Lisa Morris of the Indianapolis Districts Office and Metro Ministries; Barbara Angotti, retired Bloomington District Administrative Assistant, Pat Sanders, Michiana District, Elkhart and Linda Fights, Elkhart New Hope UMC. Those attending from the Indiana Area included: Nancy Caddick, Ridge UMC, Munster; Linda Fights; Linda Houge, Lawrence UMC, Indianapolis; Ed Metzler Indiana Area, Indianapolis; Lisa Morris; Michelle O'Hare; Pat Sanders; Janice Self, Speedway UMC, Indianapolis; Pam Voss, Indianapolis West District; and Jenni Walker, Indianapolis East District. Morris also was elected to the Executive Committee of the national PAUMCS association as membership secretary. This is a three year term. Kathy Slamp, of Vessel Ministries was a seminar speaker, Working for the Church: Rose Garden or Thorny Thicket?, as was the Rev. Sara Armstrong, the author of The Shattered Pearls, an account of living ten years in Africa. Dr. Philip Amerson, president and professor of church and society at Claremont School of Theology in Claremont, Calif. presented a seminar on the holy work of encouragement and hospitality. Passing Out Roses When Dandelions Would Do. Jennifer Waterson led a program on safe sanctuaries. The PAUMCS Annual Conference provides education and supportive professional network. The organization established in 1982 and under the General Council on Finance and Administration of the United Methodist Church, fosters individual growth, professional development and spiritual enrichment for its members in the United States, Russia, and Africa. The North and South Indiana Conference Chapters of PAUMCS are planning a combined Continuing Education Event for all church secretaries and administrators, both paid and volunteer, on August 29.
