South Conference women to highlight peace during Oct. 14 conference


PEACE: Expanding Mission, Nurturing Each Other In Kindness and Love


COLUMBUS, Ind. - The South Indiana Conference United Methodist Women's Conference is scheduled to meet on Saturday, Oct. 14 at Columbus Asbury United Methodist Church, 1751 27th Street, beginning with registration and refreshments at 8:15 a.m.

The theme is "PEACE: Expanding Mission, Nurturing Each Other In Kindness and Love." Speakers, including the Rev. Charles Gipson, who plans to reflect on personal racial justice stories as United Methodists celebrate 25 years of the Charter for Racial Justice.

The conference also plans to recognize the 50th Anniversary of full clergy rights for women ordained in the United Methodist tradition, share in Holy Communion, sing, worship and fellowship together. Carolyn Marshall, executive director of Lucille Raines Residence will install the new officers for 2007.

Cost is $12 per person, which includes lunch. Childcare will be provided. (please bring a sack lunch for each child).

South United Methodist Women are scheduled to hold a Friday Before complimentary program on Oct. 13 at Columbus First United Methodist Church, 618 Eighth Street. Tea will begin at 2 p.m. followed by focus groups on Volunteers in Medicine and UMW in Mission. Beginning at 4:30 p.m., participants are invited to attend and experience Ethnic Expo in downtown Columbus: A festival with ethnic entertainment, marketplace vendors and ethnic cuisine.
