Midway, Bloomfield Wesley Chapel raise $6,000 for Baker ChapelDEGONIA SPRINGS, Ind. - Two South Indiana churches - Midway and Bloomfield Wesley Chapel - joined together in July to help neighboring Baker Chapel. These two churches, with a total combined membership of less than 100, raised $6,000 to aid Baker Chapel's re-building project. The Midway annual Summer Social, normally a fund-raising event for church related expenses, was devoted this year to raising money for the nearby church destroyed Nov. 6 by a tornado. Wesley Chapel accepted the invitation to help and the community responded generously. On Aug. 13, nearly 100 people from the three churches gathered together at the building site, presented Baker Chapel with a check, enjoyed homemade ice cream and celebrated their friendship. According to the Rev. Linda Kirkwood, pastor of Midway UMC, "We were pretty amazed at how successful these two small churches were in raising the money for Baker Chapel. It exceeded our highest hopes. The feeling of kinship between Midway and Wesley Chapel has been great for many years, and the opportunity to work together for a common cause has only made the bonds stronger."
