Efforts of the Hoosier interfaith Darfur coalition
- Aug. 2004 - Hosted a prayer vigil in Indianapolis
- Summer 2005 - Delivered 2,500 signatures to the office of Senator Lugar
calling for Americna leadership to protect civilians in Darfur.
- Spring 2006 - Delivered more than 19,000 postcards to President Bush calling
for the deployment of a multinational peacekeeping force to Darfur, traveled to
Washington DC to lobby Congress and rallied with 50,000 supporters at the
Capitol.
- June 2006 - United Methodists in the North and South Indiana Conferences
adopted a Darfur resolution supporting funding, legislation, peacekeeping
operations and divestment.
- July 2006 - Religious leaders from four parts of the state joined together to
participate in a conference phone conversation with the Sudan's Ambassador to
the U.S., Khidir Ahmed, about divestment.
- Sept. 2006 - Hundreds of Christians, Jews and Muslims gathered on the lawn of
the Fort Wayne courthouse on the Global Day for Darfur. Others traveled to New
York to attend a rally.
- Nov. 2006 - The Bloomington City Council passed a resolution in support of
targeted divestment in the state of Indiana.
- Dec. 2006 - Forty members of the coalition discussed the Darfur crisis with
Senator Lugar at the University of Indianapolis.
