Three Hoosier United Methodists part of 110th CongressWASHINGTON (UMNS) - The number of United Methodists who will be serving in the 110th Congress will remain the same as in the previous assembly at 62, though some of the names will change. There are 13 United Methodists in the U.S. Senate and 49 United Methodists in the U.S. House of Representatives. United Methodist of Indiana include: Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.), member of St. Luke's UMC in Indianapolis, Rep. Steve Buyer (R-Ind.), member of Monticello UMC and Rep. Baron P. Hill (D-Ind.), member of Seymour First UMC. United Methodists rank third in total Congressional membership, following Roman Catholics in first place and Baptists in second. Presbyterians, Jews and Episcopalians are in fourth, fifth and sixth places. Nondenominational Protestants, Lutherans, Mormons and nondenominational Christians complete the top 10 religious groups represented in Congress. In addition, President George Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney are United Methodists.
