Some of the changes agreed upon and proposed by South Indiana

  • The word "candidates" is replaced by "person willing to serve as delegates,"
  • A time prior to balloting when members can get to know "person willing to serve as delegates,"
  • Eligible persons may submit a written expression of willingness to serve as a delegate,
  • Those willing to serve are invited to indicate any criteria they believe to be important in electing bishops,
  • Written expressions of willingness to serve as a delegate will be submitted for printing at cost,
  • Submitted information shall consist of pertinent personal data and biographical sketch, a statement of why the person is a United Methodist, and a position statement on what the person believes to be the three most critical issues facing the church at General Conference.
  • Annual conference strives for inclusiveness in its elected delegations,
  • Caucuses, groups or individuals may submit surveys and questionnaires to persons willing to serve as delegates and may report and distribute any responses,
  • Persons willing to serve as delegates or their supporters are to give truthfully, accurately and positively information to voting conference members on issues, outside the auditorium or at its entrances,
  • No signs will be displayed in the bar of the conference or made visible from voting area, and
  • No materials or lists of who "not to vote for" will be distributed.
