Responsibilities:

I. The Hoosier United Methodists Together

Edits, publishes and produces a monthly (9-times-a-year) newspaper for lay and clergy members of the United Methodist Church in Indiana. The publication covers information, concerns, and opportunities for ministry, with an emphasis on the Indiana connection, its trends and initiatives. Circulation - 19,500.

Complimentary subscriptions are sent to all UM clergy members and every current church officer whose name is reported on the Charge Conference Leadership or Personnel Directory list provided by each pastor.

II. Public Relations

The Area Communications office is the central information point for the Indiana Church. Questions are researched and answered from within the connection and from the secular press regarding church activities and the denomination's position on a wide variety of social and political issues. The office is the official news gathering and distributing agency for the Indiana church, with the dual responsibility of openness and honesty in communicating with the public while also finding opportunities to publicly celebrate the Church's strengths and accomplishments.

During a public relations crisis, the communications director, working with Bishop White and the appropriate district superintendent, becomes a bridge to public media.

III. Communications Consulting

The Area Communications office acts as a communications resource for the two Indiana conferences, the districts and local churches. It provides training workshops and consultation on a variety of topics and media projects.

Congregational Communication Workshops are being held in each of the 18 districts in Indiana.
