2008
THEODORE E. FORBES, retired Elder (SIC), died Saturday, May 3, 2008. A
memorial service was held May 8, at Epworth UMC in Newburgh, Ind. Survivors
include: Wife, Donna Forbes, 6111 Jamestown Court, Evansville, IN 47715; one
son, Todd Forbes; 3 daughters, Tammy, Angelique and Wendy; and one step-daughter

JUDITH A. TRENARY, member of Forest UMC (NIC), active in District and
North Indiana Annual Conference UMW, and missions including Operation Doctor,
Operation Classroom, Africa University, Brazil, Gulf Coast, died May 3, 2008. A
memorial service was held Thursday, May 8, at Forest UMC, with the Rev. Steve

NEIL E. PARTAIN, retired Elder (SIC) and Educational Opportunities
coordinator for Holy Land tours, died Wednesday, April 24, 2008. Visitation is
scheduled for Saturday, April 26 from 4-8 p.m. at the Voss Funeral Home, 316 N.
Chestnut Street in Seymour, Ind. A memorial service will be held Sunday, April
27 at First UMC, 201 East Third Street in Seymour, Ind., with burial at Fairview
Cemetery at Brownstown, Ind. Survivors include: daughters, Diana Talbert, 248 E
Jackson St, Orleans, IN 47452 and Mary Jane Vandeventer; and four grandchildren,
Sara, Ben, Aaron and Luke.
LOUISE BENNETT, wife of retired pastor, the Rev. Richard L. Bennett
(NIC), died April 24, 2008. A memorial service was held April 29 with the Rev.
Wray McCallister officiating. Survivors include: Husband, Richard L. Bennett;
daughter, Virginia Davidson of Angola; son, Michael Bennett of Leesburg; and
sister, Nancy Radigan. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.

GLADYS LOUISE TAYLOR, 99, of Independence and mother of the Rev. Judy
Fuller of Daleville UMC in the Muncie District, NIC) died on Wednesday, April
23. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 25 at Maus Funeral
Home, 704 S. Council St. in Attica, Ind., with burial at Riverside Cemetery in

MARY ANN STAFFORD, mother of the Rev. Deb Rousselle (associate pastor

JOHN MARTY, father of the Rev. David Marty of Faith Chapel UMC in

SAMUEL E. CARLTON, retired pastor (NIC), died April, 11, 2008. A

DOLORES CARROLL, wife of the Rev. Charles Carroll, retired elder
(SIC), died April 10, 2008. A memorial service was held April 13.

GREG L. MULLEN, husband of Debbie Mullen
(NIC and former manager of the Indiana United Methodist Federal Credit Union),
died Sunday, April 6, 2008 in Bunker Hill, Ind. A memorial service was held April 11.
HELEN L. BROWN, widow of the late Rev.
Ernest W. Hamilton (NIC), died Wednesday, April 2, 2008 in Muncie, Ind. A
memorial service was held on Saturday, April 5, with burial in the East

GRACE E. NUNERY, wife of retired Elder, C. Albert
Nunery (NIC), died Tuesday, March 25, 2008. Calling hours are scheduled from 4
to 8 p.m., Friday, March 28, at the Leppert Mortuary, 740 E 86th St in
Indianapolis. A memorial service will be held Saturday morning at 10:30 at the
St. Luke's UMC, 100 W. 86th Street in Indianapolis with Kent Millard
officiating. Calling will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the church. Survivors include:
Albert, her husband of 65 years; children, Ruth Allford, David A. Nunery,

JOYCE KAVICH, spouse of John Kavich, retired pastor
(SIC), died March 24, 2008. Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 26,
2008. She is survived by her husband: John Kavich 2335 N Madison Ave, Anderson,
IN 46011, 1 son: David Kavich, and 1 daughter: Jean Bloom.
MORRIS McCLINTIC, retired pastor (SIC), died on March
24, 2008. A memorial service was held Thursday, March 27, at Wright Memorial
Chapel in Franklin. Survivors include: Wife, Helen York McClintic, 1070 W
Jefferson, Franklin, IN 46131; one daughter, Marcia Staples; three sons; Donald
McClintic, Gary McClintic and Michael McClintic; 10 grandchildren; and 13
great-grandchildren.
Willie Morgan
died on March 22. His funeral service will be at First
UMC in South Bend on Saturday, March 29, at 1:00. The address of the church is
333 North Main Street, South Bend, IN 46601. His wife, Ethel, and their four
children survive him, as well as numerous grandchildren. Mr. Morgan was a Lay
Member of Annual Conference
(NIC) for many years, first from Delaney UMC in Gary, then later

EVERETT LIKENS WRIGHT JR., retired pastor (SIC) died
Saturday, March 22, 2008. A memorial service was held March 25 at St. Mark’s UMC
in Bloomington, Ind. Survivors include: Wife, Patti Wright, 2901 Fawkes Way,
Bloomington, IN 47404; four daughters, Virginia Haywood-Bass, Cynthia Wright-Lepoidvin,
Connie Vest and Judy Fetzinger; one son, Richard Wright, 14 grandchildren, and

JAMES M. PATCH, former pastor (NIC), died Friday, March
21, 2008. A memorial service was held Wednesday, March 26 at the Downing-Glancy

BENJAMIN E. ANTLE, retired pastor (NIC), died March 14, 2008. A

MABEL COLLIER CUNNINGHAM, widow of the late Rev. Ralph
Cunningham (NIC), died March 11, 2008. A memorial service has been scheduled for

Washington Ave. in Evansville, Ind., with visitation one hour prior to the

She was preceded in death by her first husband, the late
Grover Lee Collier; her second husband, the late Rev. Ralph W. Cunningham.

HENRY L. GERNER, retired Elder (SIC) and former Head of the Department of
Chaplaincy, Counseling & C.P.E. at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis from 1982
to his retirement in 1994, died Feb. 26, 2008. A memorial service was held March
4 at North UMC in Indianapolis. Survivors include: his wife, Dorothy "Dotti"

MAURICE KESSLER, retired pastor (NIC), died Feb. 27, 2008. A memorial service
was held March 1. The Revs. Harold L. Leininger and Karen Ottjes officiated.
Survivors include: two daughters, Alona Leininger, Akron; and Miriam Sumner of
Anderson; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in
death by his wife, Marjorie; sister, Mabel Cretcher; and two brothers, Lewis and
Arthur Kessler.
MARIETTA BLYTHE, surviving spouse of the late Rev. Andrew Blythe (SIC), died

RONALD G. THOMAS, Associate Member (SIC), died Feb. 3, 2008. A memorial service

ROBERT RUSSELL ROWLAND, retired Elder of West Chester, Ohio, who held several
positions in higher education (SIC), died Jan. 30, 2008. He is survived by his

HOWARD EARL WRIGHT retired minister and former district superintendent (SIC)
died Jan. 25, 2008. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Thomas

MARTHA SEARCY, widow of Hubert Searcy (SIC), died Jan 20, 2008. Survivors

ROBERT McBRIDE, 83, died Jan. 19, 2008, retired professor of philosophy and
religion and director of graduate studies at the University of Indianapolis
(1954-1966). He also was academic dean and vice-president for academic affairs
at Albright College in Reading, Pa. (1966-1979) and president of Simpson College
in Indianola, Iowa (1979 through retirement in 1987). Survivors include: Wife,
Luella Hart McBride; children, Judith Bentley of Seattle, Wash., Ronald McBride
of Indianapolis and Steven McBride of Denver, Colo.; six grandchildren and one

GERALDINE SINER, former (NIC, SIC) Diaconal
Minister and widow of the late Rev. John Siner (NIC), died Fri., Dec. 28, 2007.

burial at Clearcreek Cemetery. Survivors include: two daughters, Darla Siner,

WILBURN E. CROPPER, retired pastor (SIC), died Dec. 20, 2007.

THELMA F. GENTRY, 93, mother of retired pastor of district
superintendent the Rev. James E. Gentry of Indianapolis (SIC), died
Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007 at Franklin United Methodist Community. Survivors
include three sons, the Rev. James E. Gentry of Indianapolis, Ralph E.
Gentry of Meidian, Idaho, and Chuck L. Gentry of Ormond Beach, Fla.; a
daughter, Doris J. Anderson of Louisville; a sister, Fern Higdon of
Crandall; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Visitation is
scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 22, from 2 to 8 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 23,
after 11 a.m. at Swarens Funeral Home, 1405 Highway 64 NW, in Ramsey,
Ind. A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 23, at 2 p.m. at
the funeral home followed by burial in Zoar UMC Cemetery near Corydon,

JANET YVONNE DEAL, 73, wife of the Rev. David Deal, retired
supply pastor to Breden UMC in Terre Haute, Ind. (SIC), formerly of
Plainville, Ill., died Monday, Dec. 10, 2007 at her home in Marshall,
Ill., following an extended illness. A memorial service is scheduled for
10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14 at Pearce Funeral Home, 314 S. Sixth Street in
Marshall, Ill., with graveside services at 3 p.m. at the Plainville
(Ill.) Cemetery.
Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 13 and prior to the
memorial service on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials can be given

WARREN DEXTER, 96, father of the Rev.
Robert Dexter, Michiana District Superintendent (NIC), died Tuesday, Dec. 4,
2007. A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9 at Trinity
United Methodist Church, 609 Putnam St., Fort Wayne, Ind. There will be a short
period of visitation prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family has

FLORISE M. JACKSON, 65, chair of the
finance committee of the United Methodist General Board of Global Ministries and
a long-time national figure in United Methodist Women, died on November 12 at a
hospital in New Jersey.
A native of the island of St. Thomas in the US
Virgin Islands, Newton was a member of the Covenant UMC of the Plainfields, and
lived in nearby Piscataway, N.J. She died of a heart attack.

LARRY V. OMAN, 65, a former clergy member (SIC), died Oct. 4, 2007 in Seattle,
after a six-year battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Martha; and
children Erik, Kirstin, Kyle and Karin. A memorial service was scheduled to be
held at the Steamboat Springs UMC in Colorado Oman was a clergy member of South
Indiana Conference in 1969 and transferred to the Rocky Mountain Conference in
1984. Oman served at University Church in Indianapolis as a student pastor.
After completing his M.Div at Princeton University, he returned to University
Church where he served as an associate pastor. In the South Indiana Conference
he also served at the Conference office, and churches as Nashville and Peru.

HARRY HAINES, 89, a United Methodist clergyperson and director of the United
Methodist Committee on Relief from 1966 to 1983, died March 29, 2007. He
suffered a heart attack in Eugene, Ore., where he and his wife, Loma, lived in
retirement. Haines, a native of New Zealand, was a missionary in China in the
1940s and later in Malaysia. He then worked in the division of interchurch aid,
refugees and world service of the World Council of Churches. At UMCOR, he was an
advocate for service to those in need and for education about the impact of
poverty and political oppression on millions of people.
PAULINE RHINE, widow of the late Rev. James
Rhine, and mother of the Rev. Terry Rhine, pastor of Chesterton UMC (NIC), died

Brethren Church and served as bishop from 1979 to 1992. According to the Rev.

DON RHOADES, brother of the Rev. Karen Rhoades, pastor of Monterey and
Leiters Ford UMCs Welling (NIC), died Sunday, July 23 at Miller's Merry Manor in
Columbia City, Ind. Other survivors include: his wife, Ann; two children, Todd
Rhoades and Pam Kethcart; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded
in death by his parents and brother, the Rev. Jack l. Rhoades. A memorial

JOHN VAYHINGER, died June 11, 2006 in
Colorado Springs, Colo. He was well known in Indiana having been on the teaching
staff at Anderson University and Garrett Theological Institute
(Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary). He also served the local church as

LEROY CHARLES HODAPP, 82, a retired bishop
of The United Methodist Church who served as Bishop of the Indiana Area from
1984 to 1992, died May 26, 2006 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. During
his tenure as an active bishop, Hodapp served as president of the General Board
of Church and Society based in Washington, D.C., and also as president of the
General Board of Global Ministries based in New York City. Hodapp was the son of
Linden Charles and Mary Marguerite Miller Hodapp, and was born in Seymour, Ind.,
Nov. 11, 1923. He attended the University of Evansville, (B.A.) in 1944. He then
attended Drew Theological Seminary (B.D.) in 1947. (Pastoral record on page 1).
He married Polly Anne Martin in June 1947. They have two adult daughters: Anne
Lynn Gates and Nancy Ellen Wichman.
ELIZABETH STANTON, widow of the late Rev.

former president of the North Indiana Conference United Methodist Women and
currently chairperson of the Indiana Area Committee on Episcopacy, died May 23,

MARK ALLEN MASTERS, a mission executive of
the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church, died
suddenly of a heart attack on May 14, 2006 while visiting missionaries in Nepal.
Masters, 48, was regional executive for mission personnel in Europe, North
Africa, Middle East and South & Central Asia of the General Board of Global
Ministries. He had himself served as a missionary in Africa and the Solomon
Islands.
MAX TOLIVER, retired part-time pastor
(SIC), died May 10, 2006.
Survivors include: his wife, Maxine Toliver; two daughters, Stephanie Holmes,
