The Methodists of Haiti need our prayers and help
As Jean-Bertrand Aristide fled Haiti for a second exile, some Haitians
in Port-au-Prince emerged from their homes and returned to work and
school. UMCOR underwrites a number of health, education and agriculture
projects -- many in rural areas -- in Haiti or in the adjacent Dominican
Republic for Haitian residents.
The Methodist Church of Haiti supports school lunch programs, water and
sanitation projects and community health clinics in remote areas as well
as in urban centers. Many Indiana Volunteers in Mission have participated
in these Haitian ministries. Church leaders in Haiti have requested
prayers for the people of Haiti as they face the issues of transition. A
gift to a Haiti Advance or to UMCOR Advance #418325, Haiti Civil
Emergency, will be especially meaningful during this time of crisis.
UMCOR has an emergency assistance number already in place for Haiti:
UMCOR Advance #418325, Haiti Civil Emergency. Check UMCOR's hotline
information daily at
http://gbgm-umc.org/umcor-hotline/.
Please keep the people of Haiti in your prayers. Read more about Haiti
in the upcoming issue of Hoosier United Methodists Together and online at
