storms, tornadoes and flooding that began May 27 and continued into the
first week of June.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management
Agency (FEMA) announced June 3 that President Bush declared Crawford,
Clark, Marion, Miami and Washington counties as major disaster areas.
The United Methodist-related Midwest Mission Distribution Center, based
in Chathan, Ill. near Springfield responded by delivering 468 flood
clean-up buckets to Indianapolis. Jean Huett,
director of Hope International requested assistance.
Volunteers from Grand Island, Neb., Cabery, Ill., Chillicothe, Ill.,
and Colby, Wis. loaded five tons of flood clean-up items and bottled water
valued at more than $21,000.
