I am opposed to any expansion of gambling in Indiana and strongly encourage your opposition to House Bill 1188 (Pull Tabs) or any other form of bill which this year's State Legislature may consider which continues our state's dependence on the gambling industry.
I understand that if approved, HR1188 would expand gambling operations at four sites by essentially "casino-izing" the existing race tracks (in Anderson and near Shelbyville) and the offsite betting parlors (in Indianapolis and Fort Wayne) by authorizing the installation of huge numbers of "pull-tab" machines - which are really non-random slot machines by another name. The number of pull-tabs to be installed is massive: up to 1,000 machines per track, and up to 1,500 machines per off-site betting parlor.
I believe the undisputed facts of countless studies that legalized gambling increases addictions, bankruptcies, crime, divorce and suicides. This expansion is not good for our people, our families, our youth, our communities, our businesses or our economy.
Please do not support gambling expansion in any form.
