Kokomo men host Ride to End Hunger
KOKOMO, Ind. -- To relieve hunger, the men of Kokomo are revvin' their
engines.
The Kokomo District United Methodist Men in partnership with the
Society of St. Andrew and New Life United Methodist Men welcome all
motorcyclists to join them in a Motor Cycle Ride to End Hunger on
Saturday, Oct. 9. Registration begins at 8 a.m., with the ride beginning
at 10 a.m. The ride will begin and end at New Life United Methodist
Church, 400 North on U.S. 31 in Miami County. Food and drinks will be
served at the conclusion of the ride.
Riders are asked to bring canned goods to donate. Monetary donations
will be received to bring in semi-truck loads of food at a later date.
Those without motorcycles may participate by driving pickup trucks to
receive and deliver the canned goods to local relief agencies.
The Society of St. Andrew is a non-profit ecumenical ministry
dedicated to fight hunger in our nation and world. Through the Society
of St. Andrew's potato project, more than 20 million pounds of produce
are salvaged annually to provide 60 million servings to food banks, soup
kitchens, Native American reservations and other food distribution
agencies nationwide -- this cost about two-cents a serving. The Society
of St. Andrew is an Advance Special mission project of The United
Methodist Church.
