SOUTH INDIANA DISASTER RESPONSE UPDATES TO HURRICANE RELIEF
Here are the latest updates from Duane Fleener, who is assisting Bob
Babcock, South Indiana Conference Disaster Response Coordinator, about
the conference's responses to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita relief effort
in the South.
The SIC has recently sent two filled semi-trailers, one to Sager
Brown and the other to a church in Pascagoula, Miss.
For continued loading in semi-trailers, only one of our former sites
will be available. The United Methodist Temple in Terre Haute will
continue to accept items for placement directly into the trailer. The
trailer will accept materials only during times the office is open. Call
812-299-1898 to make drop-off arrangements.
The trailer that was at Lawrence UMC will NOT be replaced.
Indianapolis area people who have materials can unload them at Buchanan
Hauling, 2506 California Street in Indianapolis. This site is south of
I-70 just off West Street (turn at the blinking light). The South
Indiana Conference is sharing the loading of that trailer with the North
Indiana Conference. Prior to arrival, call Brian Buchanan at
317-919-2025 to make arrangements for drop-off. The SIC is adding a
trailer at Hazelton UMC, US 41 S, Hazelton, Ind near the church's
warehouse. The Hazelton contact is Paul Huntsman. Call him at
812-784-2318 to make drop-off arrangements.
SOUTH INDIANA CONFERENCE TO HOST TWO VIM TRAINING SESSIONS

two VIM training sessions in October. Please register by calling the

KENTUCKY GROUP TO PICK UP ITEMS IN BLOOMINGTON DISTRICT OCT. 24
Kentucky Mountain Mission will have a truck in the Bloomington
District on Monday, Oct. 24. The truck will stop at Linton First UMC,
Newberry UMC, Spencer UMC, Fairview UMC and Saint Mark's UMC. For a PDF
file flyer of items needed, call Jessica Lindsey in the Bloomington
District Office at 812-339-1445.
ELKHART CHURCH HAS BECOME 'SISTER' TO MISSISSIPPI CONGREGATION
Mississippi City UMC in Mississippi is one of the UM churches who
lost its building to Katrina. Jamestown UMC in Elkhart has become a
"Sister Congregation" to MCUMC. This church was insured and will be able
to rebuild. However, in the meantime, the congregation is in need of
folding chairs, UM Hymnals, and pew Bibles. Jamestown UMC has a means of
getting such items to MCUMC at no cost. If you have any of these items
let Jamestown Pastor David Henry know at
fivehen@gmail.com. He will make
arrangements to gather them up, box them up and then send them south.
