South Indiana Tornado Relief Update

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED DURING THANKSGIVING BREAK FOR TORNADO CLEAN-UP

Volunteers will continued to be needed this week (Today, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday) in the Daviess and Martin Counties area. Please contact the Mennonite Disaster Service at 248-914-1379 if you are able to help with their rebuilding efforts. The Disaster Service headquarters is located in Montgomery, Indiana; once in Montgomery, go to the Gasthof Village Inn, turn right, it's the first building on the right.

CORRECTION ON PLACE FOR SERVICE OF HOPE, HEALING TOMORROW NIGHT

The Service of Hope and Healing, following the Evansville Tornado and scheduled for tomorrow Wednesday, Nov. 23, at 6:30 p.m. will be at Newburgh United Methodist Church, 4178 Highway 261, Newburgh, Ind. The clergy leadership will be the Revs. Kevin McKinney, Evansville District Superintendent, Jerusha Franz, Pastor of Baker's Chapel, and Mark L. Dicken, Lead Pastor of Newburgh UMC.

MOTHER OF FOUR NEEDS HELP IN REBUILDING HER HOME IN NEWBURGH

A divorced mother of four who attends Newburgh United Methodist Church lost her home and vehicle during the Nov. 6 Evansville area tornado. She had no insurance coverage at the time of the loss. Beginning Monday, Nov. 28, volunteers are needed to tear down what remains of her home, and help her rebuild it. Donations of building supplies will be needed. If you wish to volunteer, deliver building supplies or make a monetary donation, please contact Pastor Mark Dicken of Newburgh United Methodist Church at 812-853-2946. VOLUNTEERS WITH CHAIN SAWS NEEDED FOR TORNADO CLEAN-UP NOV. 28

Pastor Randy Anderson, Chair of Long Term Recovery in the Evansville District, needs volunteers with chainsaws starting Monday, Nov. 28 to help with clean-up after the Nov. 6 Evansville tornado. There are approximately 475 acres in rural areas covered with debris. If you are able and own a chainsaw, please contact Anderson at 812-568-4746, or the office at Epworth United Methodist Church at 812-853-8107.

VOLUNTEER IN MISSION TRAINING SESSION SCHEDULED FOR DEC. 7

South Indiana Conference Volunteers in Mission Coordinator Carolyn Ellis has scheduled a VIM Team Leader Training Session on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 2:30 p.m. at Central Barren United Methodist Church, Hwy 135, Central Barren in the New Albany District. All Districts are welcome. Please call Carolyn at 812-882-2716 if you are interested in attending this training session. The New Albany District has planned two mission trips to the Gulf Coast; Jan. 28-Feb. 4, and Mar. 26-Apr. 1, 2006.

SOUTH CONFERENCE RECEIVING DONATIONS TO HELP REBUILD BAKER'S CHAPEL

Donations to help rebuild Baker's Chapel in DeGonia Springs, Ind. (five miles east of Boonville), destroyed by the Nov. 6 tornado in the Evansville District, can be made payable to the South Indiana Conference UMC and sent to South Indiana Conference Treasurer, Jennifer Gallagher, 1520 Liberty Dr., Bloomington, IN 47403. Please note "Baker's Chapel Rebuilding Fund" in the check memo. These funds will be administered by the South Indiana Conference. According to Bob Babcock, SIC Disaster Relief Coordinator, Baker's Chapel plans to rebuild using Volunteer in Mission teams coordinated by the South Indiana Conference. Baker's Chapel Pastor Jerusha Franz said the congregation presently meets in the 4-H Homemaker's Extension Building at the Warrick County Fairgrounds and hope to continue meeting there until their building is erected. She said she was extremely grateful for the connection in The United Methodist Church.

VOLUNTEERS CHECK IN WITH EPWORTH'S PASTOR MONAHAN

Volunteers wishing to assist in Evansville District tornado relief need to call Pastor Mike Monahan at Epworth United Methodist Church, 812-853-8107, before volunteering with the relief efforts. Volunteers will be needed for during the coming weeks with the rebuilding efforts, once FEMA and the insurance companies have finished with their appraisals. Please call and add your name to the list of volunteers willing to aid in the rebuilding efforts.

CONTRIBUTIONS FOR INDIANA TORNADO RELIEF CAN BE GIVEN THROUGH SOUTH INDIANA CONFERENCE DISASTER RELIEF FUND

Contributions from churches and individuals for Evansville Tornado Relief can be given through the South Indiana Conference of The United Methodist Church. Send funds to the South Indiana Conference Treasurer, 1520 Liberty Dr., Bloomington, IN 47403, marked Evansville Tornado Relief. Funds will be distributed through the South Indiana Conference Disaster Response.

Gulf Coast Hurricane Recovery Update

CHRISTMAS TOY DONATIONS NEEDED FOR GULF COAST CHILDREN

Christmas toy donations are needed for the 2,100 children who attended the United Methodist Churches in the Seashore District that were destroyed by Hurricanes Katrina and Wilma. Churches that collect newly purchased toys (under $20 each) need to deliver or send the toys to Hazelton United Methodist Church at Main & 3rd Streets, Hazelton, IN 47640 (mailing address -- P.O. Box 198, Hazelton, IN 47640-0198). Please contact Pastor Paul Huntsman at 812-784-2318 for hours and arrangements before delivering the toys. The deadline is Monday, Dec. 12. Teams planning a trip to the Seashore District over the holiday break, please contact Elsie Miller at emiller@sicumc.org or 800-919-8160 ext. 221 to let her know if you would be able to help transport the toys.

REMEMBER TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE PASTORS-HELPING-PASTORS FUND

In October both Indiana Conference Councils on Finance and Administration approved of the creation of the Pastors Helping Pastors Fund to assist the Louisiana Conference in helping pay salaries and benefits for United Methodist pastors in Louisiana displaced by the hurricanes. Indiana pastors have been invited to contribute $10 or more from each paycheck for the remainder of 2005, and to send their gifts to the Indiana Area Foundation of the United Methodist Church at 1100 W. 42nd St., Suite 210, Indianapolis, IN 46208. All gifts are tax deductible.

SOUTH CONFERENCE VOLUNTEERS PREPARE GULFPORT THANKSGIVING MEAL

Volunteers are on their way to serve a Thanksgiving Day meal in Gulfport, Miss. The Indianapolis St. Luke's Garden team with Richard Higgins, will be providing 3,500 meals. Tarrel Thompson also will be taking a lead in the kitchen in Gulfport. Carolyn Ellis, SIC Volunteers in Mission Coordinator and Doyle Ellis are part of the group, too.

MORE THAN 3,500 PLACEMATS IN PLACE FOR GULFPORT MEAL

More than 3,500 placemats were sent to the South Indiana Conference Center for the Thanksgiving Day meal at Gulfport. Most were made by the children of South Indiana Conference. Thanks to these contributing United Methodist churches: Blue Grass, Zionsville, Lawrence, Pfrimmer's Chapel, Connersville Grace, Old Capitol, Bloomington St. Mark's, Ames Chapel, Indianapolis St. Andrew, Mt. Tabor, Bonds Chapel, Santa Claus, Spencer, Mohawk, New Middletown, Elizabethtown, Zoar, Simpson Chapel, Manchester Charge St. Paul and Community, Newburgh, Carlisle First, Arlington, St. Luke's Indianapolis and Pimento. ASSISTANCE NEEDED TO TRANSPORT SUPPLIES TO GULF COAST AREA

Your assistance is needed to transport supplies to the Gulf Coast area. The Terre Haute District Office has supplies earmarked for the hurricane relief efforts that need to be moved. NOBLESVILLE TEAM PREPARES FOR DISASTER RELIEF IN MOBILE

Associate Pastor of First UMC, Noblesville, Ind. is taking a second team of 15 people from South Indiana Conference to Mobile, AL November 27-December 3. The team is working through Alabama-West Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church in their Disaster Relief Ministry, which is a partner with UMCOR.
