Bloomington District Superintendent hospitalized after heart attack

Bishop Mike Coyner announced this morning that the Rev. Bob Ostermeier, superintendent of the Bloomington District, suffered a heart attack on Saturday and is hospitalized at Bloomington Hospital. This morning Ostermeier underwent a heart catherization which revealed three blockages. According to the Bloomington District office, he will undergo heart bypass surgery on Wednesday at Bloomington Hospital, 601 West Second Street in Bloomington.

According to the Bloomington Hospital Web site (www.bhhs.org), “for the comfort and well-being of patients, general visiting hours at Bloomington Hospital are observed from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Patients staying on Critical Care, Cardiovascular Recovery, the Acute Rehabilitation Unit, Select Specialty Hospital, or Behavioral Health Services will have more structured hours. Check with the staff in these areas for appropriate visiting times.”

Nester House Party scheduled for Saturday May 19

In other Bloomington District news, the Bloomington District will host a Nester House Party on Saturday, May 19 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Projects for volunteers include: tent set-up, organizing usable and unusable items and land clean up. Volunteers are requested to bring work gloves and any equipment that might help in clean-up efforts. Construction on the Nester house has already begun. Jonie Nester, a pastor serving Poplar Grove UMC in Morgan County, had extensive fire and water damage to her house due to a fire this past month. To assist her, Bloomington District Superintendent Bob Ostermeier issued a plea for all Bloomington District churches to donate $100. The plea was taken a step further with the churches and clergy of the South Indiana Conference given the opportunity to donate to the Nesters. For financial assistance, contributions to assist in restoring the Nesters’ home can be payable to and sent to the Bloomington District UMC, 1520 South Liberty Drive, Bloomington, IN 47403-5167.
