MINNESOTA – Updates on Flood Recovery Assistance:
Announcement from the Rev. Heather Klason, the Minnesota Annual
Conference Disaster Response Coordinator: Volunteer Opportunities
Update: As of Aug. 27, flood relief officials are seeking volunteers for
work in Winona and Rushford Counties. To volunteer, call the following
numbers: Rushford County: United Way, phone 507-287-2000 and in Winona
County: Jeff Peterson phone 507-457-8882
To register your willingness to volunteer in a specific county, call
800-543-7709. Find information for general volunteers at
www.uwolmsted.org.
Find registration numbers for volunteers for other specific counties
at www.minnesotaumc.org.
(Click "Flood Relief: How to Help" under "Quick Links.")
DO NOT enter an affected area before (1) registering as a
volunteer and (2) being enlisted to volunteer. Many areas do not
have electricity, telephone, or sewer systems, and are unsafe. Uninvited
volunteers, regardless of how well meaning, can complicate recovery
efforts.
Minnesota Disaster Response Team to Minnesota City: The
Minnesota Disaster Early Response Team, a specially trained group, has
been called to in Minnesota City. The team's assistance was requested by
emergency response officials. McKinley United Methodist Church in Winona
is graciously providing staging area for the team. Before Aug. 27, the
team had been mucking out homes in Stockton. They expect to continue
working at least until Sept. 7.
