D'IBERVILLE, Miss. -- As volunteers in mission, we came together for the first time on April 9, Palm Sunday evening. At final count on Monday morning, 53 volunteers from Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and Wisconsin are represented for the week.

After a hearty breakfast, the Ohio team of 26 and four of the Indiana group went to the Seashore Retirement Site. Since the Seashore District Volunteer Center project has progressed so quickly and efficiently, another site also is receiving our help.

The Heritage United Methodist Church has housed from 50 to 150 volunteers per week since the beginning of the project.

Heritage Church and Pastor David Cumbest have opened their doors, hearts and minds to meet the needs of the entire community. They also house Noah's Ark Day Care, a food pantry, as they welcome volunteers from across the country. At present they also are home to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Big Ridge Baptist Church. Members and friends of the three churches will join together for a Good Friday service during this Holy Week.

Joyce Kuhn lives in Osceola, Ind., and is a member of Grace UMC in South Bend.

To date $92,171 have been received for the Seashore District Volunteer Center build leaving a balance of $107,829 yet to be raised.
